Using Expression to Heal
I am learning that being creative can help the healing process. Self expression was suppressed in some of my childhood environments. My visual art mediums are drawing/coloring, painting, and photography. My favorite artform is photography. It was something I loved doing as a teenager. I am very grateful I've always had a camera since 1996, I had a second hand kodak - but the first camera that was mine I purchased for myself in 2000. I had rediscovered my love for photography in 2011 with my first "good" digital camera.
I am rebuilding my art supply collection and finding instructor lead art classes when I can. I've been taking workshops, attending art therapy and support groups to tap into my artistic energy to find expression and words to heal from complex trauma. Studio Mallory is a space that I am creating within my apartment and my new environments where I can feel safe and release what has been suppressed from living in toxic and unsafe relationships.
An artform I adore is tattooing - - - I have been getting tattoos to help me express and set free stories that I have been silent about for decades. I chose my artists, my artworks, and placements with deep meaning. I adore to attach a song (or two) to each tattoo. I found this process to be an enormous help to release my words and understanding of what I've been through.
